The Unique Impact of Horses

Adaptive Riding

Adaptive (Therapeutic) Riding is a goal-oriented equine-assisted activity that supports the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of individuals with disabilities. Through mounted skill-building, participants learn to communicate with their horse using reins, voice, posture, and movement—gaining balance, coordination, and confidence along the way. Each session is adapted to the rider’s abilities and life goals, promoting independence, inclusion, and personal growth. Riders also benefit from a strong sense of connection—both with their horse and the supportive community that surrounds them.

Adaptive Driving

Adaptive Driving is an equine-assisted activity that offers the benefits of horsemanship to individuals who may be unable—or prefer not—to ride astride a horse. From a two- or four-wheeled carriage, participants learn to guide a horse using reins, voice, and body cues, developing motor skills, coordination, and clear communication. The experience promotes confidence, focus, and emotional growth in a supportive, sensory-rich environment. For individuals with physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges, Adaptive Driving opens a new path to connection, empowerment, and personal achievement—one that’s grounded in movement, trust, and the unique partnership between horse and human.

Hippotherapy

Hippotherapy is a medical treatment strategy used by licensed physical, occupational, and speech-language therapists who incorporate the movement of the horse to improve function. Through carefully guided sessions, the horse’s rhythmic motion provides targeted input to the rider’s sensory, motor, and cognitive systems. This dynamic approach helps improve balance, posture, coordination, speech, and mobility as part of a comprehensive care plan. Hippotherapy is especially beneficial for individuals with conditions like cerebral palsy, autism, brain injuries, and developmental delays—offering meaningful progress through intentional movement, clinical expertise, and the unique therapeutic qualities of the horse.

Equine Assisted Learning

Equine-Assisted Learning is a guided, experiential approach that uses interactions with horses to develop life skills in areas such as communication, self-awareness, problem-solving, and leadership. Participants engage in structured activities—on the ground and occasionally mounted—that promote confidence, empathy, and emotional regulation. Horses, sensitive to human behavior, provide honest, immediate feedback, helping individuals gain insight into their own actions and decisions. EAL is a non-therapeutic learning model that supports personal, academic, and professional growth for individuals and groups, making it an effective tool for developing critical thinking, trust, teamwork, and resilience in a unique, engaging environment.

Services For Heroes

Equine-assisted services provide a powerful path to healing and renewal for veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders. These individuals often face the lasting effects of trauma, stress, and physical injury. Through structured activities with horses—both mounted and on the ground—participants build trust, resilience, and emotional balance. The horse’s intuitive responses offer honest, nonjudgmental feedback that fosters self-awareness and calm. These experiences support emotional regulation, social connection, and a renewed sense of purpose, all within a supportive, peer-centered environment. For those who have served, equine-assisted services offer a space to reconnect, reflect, and move forward.

Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy

Equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) is a therapeutic approach that involves a licensed mental health professional, an equine specialist, and horses. It uses activities like grooming and leading horses to help individuals explore emotions, build trust, and develop social and problem-solving skills. Horses respond to nonverbal cues, offering a safe, non-judgmental environment that encourages emotional regulation and self-awareness. EAP can boost confidence, reduce stress, and improve communication. It benefits people dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, addiction, or those seeking personal growth. Families can also use EAP to strengthen relationships and improve communication.
